NKF OFFLINE JULY 16, 2025 – EXPLORING TRENDS AND ATTITUDES TO POWERING THE DATA CENTER IN 2025

On July 16, 2025, professionals from across the data center industry gathered at the Nusantara Knowledge Forum in Jakarta. The event centered around one critical theme:

“Exploring Trends and Attitudes to Powering the Data Center in 2025.”

With power demand increasing, and the expectations around sustainability and efficiency rising, the discussions highlighted key shifts in how data centers are planned, monitored, and managed. Below is a recap of the key presentations and insights from the event. Erick Hadi, Founder of Nusantara Data Center Academy, opened the session by presenting survey results collected from 131 professionals across the global data center sector. His presentation focused on what the industry sees as top priorities when it comes to power. These include securing reliable energy, moving away from diesel backup, and upgrading infrastructure. However, one finding stood out: many operators still lack visibility into power quality metrics like harmonics, swells, and voltage dips.

Erick emphasized the need for better data visibility to drive operational decisions.

he said “You can’t fix what you don’t measure”
He also pointed out the resource gap between hyperscale data centers and small-to-mid-sized operators, who often struggle to keep up with fast-changing technologies.

The next presentation came from Bima Hendrawan, Chief Revenue Officer at PT Megaroyal IT Comindo, who shared a case study from a banking-sector data center project. The project initially planned for 32A single-phase tap-off units, but had to switch mid-execution to 63A three-phase due to increased power requirements. This meant replacing circuit breakers, changing connectors, and rewiring the system all under time pressure.

Bima highlighted how flexibility played a key role in keeping the project on track.

“While planning is important, the ability to respond quickly to unexpected changes is just as critical to success,”

Edward Petrus, Director at PT Megaroyal IT Comindo, shared his team’s experience of implementing real-time power monitoring in an already active data center — a task that left no room for error or downtime. The system involved over 360 panels spread across four locations, with data fed directly to the building management system (BMS). A loop ring network was built to ensure redundancy and eliminate single points of failure.

Edward explained how this setup now helps the client manage capacity, monitor risk, and balance loads more accurately.

“Flexibility, accuracy, and the ability to handle non-standard conditions were essential for success,” he said

The final session came from Ferik Yudistira, Senior DCIM Consultant at PT Megaroyal IT Comindo, who explained how his team implemented DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) in one of the country’s largest financial institutions. Unlike new builds, this implementation had to be integrated into a live environment without disrupting daily operations. The DCIM system allowed the facility to gain better visibility and control over energy usage, cooling systems, and asset performance.

Ferik pointed out that in a highly competitive environment, adaptability is crucial:

“In a market driven by rapid change, our strength lies in shaping solutions that match evolving customer needs,” he said

During the event, various points of view highlighted how the industry is responding to growing power demands and shifting sustainability expectations. As Eddy Chin, Asia Pacific DCIM Specialist at Sunbird, shared in another discussion:

“Sustainability in data centers isn’t just about reducing energy. It’s about having control over energy use, reusing what’s possible, and measuring everything in real time.”

This aligns closely with the event’s core takeaway — better data and visibility will lead to better decisions, safer operations, and more resilient infrastructure. We’d like to thank all the speakers, partners, and participants who made this forum a meaningful exchange. As we move forward, we hope these discussions can spark more collaboration and real-world solutions in building stronger, smarter data centers.
